Healthy Diet: Cut Through Conflicting Advice and Eat Right

Eating a healthy diet in today's hectic world seems like a difficult challenge. Not only do magazine articles and other media contradict each other as to what is best for us, but finding healthy food that hasn't been manipulated in some way is becoming increasingly difficult. We wonder, is it possible to decide intelligently which diet or what foods are most healthy and beneficial, and then to access them easily and consistently?
Some simple tips follow to help you cut through the masses of conflicting information and advertising masquerading as advice and make some wise choices for your health.
Eat fresh: Logic dictates that fresh food is best where possible. The more processed a food is the less fresh it can be, and the more preservatives and unhealthy additives it is likely to have. Such things as hydrogenated oils, food coloring and other chemical additives have been shown to be detrimental to our health, and other more insidious additives such as various forms as sugar, corn and salts are also best avoided. By eating fresh fruit, for instance, instead of processed juices with added sugar, you get the benefit of fiber which helps your body absorb the natural fruit sugars more slowly, deflecting an insulin spike which would have occurred with the juice.
Buy organic: Whether we are talking about meats, fresh produce or dairy products, there is significant proven benefit to buying and eating organic, especially those items certified organic by independent organizations. Organic farming follows very different rules than normal farming and food manufacturing, eschewing additives, growth hormones and pesticides, etc.. Not only the lack of detrimental chemicals but also the care for the creatures, land and produce involved all make a difference in how organic food affects you. In addition, by voting organic with your purchasing dollars you encourage the organic industry to flourish, bringing down prices, increasing availability and helping the planet as well as your health!
Supplements: Even with the best of diets it is difficult to get our required nutrients in full. If necessary, do not be afraid to supplement your diet with nutritional additions such as vitamins and minerals you may be lacking or missing. Round out your healthy diet and ensure you have the energy and vitality you deserve!
There are many other things you do improve your health immediately and create a healthy future. Self empowerment and awareness are the first steps. Enjoy!
